Consonant blends are two or more consonants that appear consecutively in a word. They are articulated together when the word is said however, unlike with consonant digraphs, each consonant sound CAN be heard when the word is sounded out.
Initial consonant blends, such as bl, br, cl, cr, dr, fr, tr, fl, gl, gr, pl, pr, sl, sm, sp and st, are a combination of consonants that appear at the start of a (ccvc) word. Words containing final consonant blends such as fast, gift, bulb, fold, milk and desk - are characterised by two or more consonants that appear at the end of a (cvcc) word.
